does a kneecap actually bruise inside? i thought it was a lump of solid cartilage?

Yes - in a sense: The kneecap is a bone with a layer of cartilage on the deep surface. With trauma the cartiage can be damaged and the underlying bone can get a "bruise" which is known as a bone contusion

i dislocated my kneecap, torn mpfl, strained mcl, bone bruises and cartilage damage.  i've gone to pt 3x/week for 3 months. is surgery a good option?

Accepted Answer

Surgery: Typically an mpfl reconstruction is not necessary. The cartilage damage may be aggravating you which may need to be debrided and require some type of marrow-stimulating procedure. I'd make and appointment with a sports medicine physician for their opinion.

i have a solid dime sized red lump on my leg was very sore. thought it was an ingrown hair so i popped it and it bled a little but is now draining clear liquid...

Accepted Answer

It may be healing: or it may be getting infected.  If it stops draining, or continues to drain but the liquid turns thick yellow or white, or redness increases in size, or pain or heat increases, go see a healthcare provider to get treated for infection. Exam and xrays: May be normal anatomy for you, or something else. Best to have an exam to determine the need for appropriate imaging to find out. Recommend either starting with your primary care or going to an orthopedist. Hope this helps!

Hematoma: If you hit wrist - evan after swelling down and pain less severe - there is usually some degree of blood collection in subcutaneous tissue ( hematoma)  and even in surface of bone ( periosteum) . It can attract more calcium as healing process and lump become hard and takes months to resolve. If any doubt have a X ray and see your doc.

post lymph node biopsy, egg sized solid lump, not bruised or painful just very hard and big is this a hematoma? are they colourless and pain free?

Accepted Answer

Maybe: A hard knot at the site of the lymph node excision could be fluid(seroma), blood( hematoma), infection(abscess) or possibly inflammation. Most of these conditions except an abscess should resolve spontaneously but may take a few weeks. Id recommend you have it checked by your surgeon.

basically in the last week my right knee has started to hurt and it feels like the pain is right underneath the kneecap. when i put my hand on my knee i can feel a little loose cartilage. it hurts a little when bending and going up and down stairs. any thoughts on what it might be? i have put some ice on it in the meantime.

Knee pain: I assume there has been no rent injury or overuse. The cause could be prepatella tendonitis or bursitis, cartilage damage,ligament damage,arthritis,chondromalacia. You wouldn't be able to palpate the cartilage which is in the interior of the knee joint. Try taking anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen or naproxen for several days or so. See an orthopedic specialist as needed.

i have a solid hard lump in my left breast with redness on the skin. looks abit bruised. it hurts when i touch it too ?

Get it checked: This is something you don't want to mess around with.  Even though you are only 20, you need to be sure it isn't cancer.  Perhaps you were injured - do you remember getting hit in that area?  Nevertheless, go see a doctor.

Must be examined: and x-rayed.This may be an osteoma or enchondroma ( benign bone growths) ; however, you must rule out bone infection or possible tumor ( omalignant) formation. Please call for an orthopedic evaluation today.

2wks ago bruised feeling above kneecap, slightly to the right. then swelling, this has gone down, tender spot/bump is there.slightly achey - ligament?

Knee issue: You may have sprained your knee but it sounds like it is healing. Do range of motion exercises as long as you're comfortable. If swelling still presence, an ace wrap or a pull on knee sleeve may still be used. Restrict weight bearing if still discomforting. Ibuprofen or Naproxen may be tried.
