doc, im in the army and have developed a severe hemorrhoid that is painful when running, it is external and bulging. how severe of an issue is this? what steps should i follow for treatment? prep h and tucks pads havent helped?

: Unfortunately, a surgical treatment for a thrombosed or "bulging" hemorrhoid is at least as symptomatic (painful!) as having the hemorroid itself. Topical relief for ease of uninterrupted sleep is possible with lidocaine ointment, but prep H and tucks will usually not help much.

Accepted Answer

Either : Either of these providers should be able to help you sort out what's going on.  Other things that can cause anal itching are parasitic infections and, ironically, broken off hairs from too much scratching.

I would suggest that you make an appointment with whichever physician can get you in sooner, and while you wait, try using some Hydrocortisone cream twice a day. Also, just in case this is an infection, be scrupulous about washing your hands after scratching, using the toilet, etc.  Otherwise, you may keep the infestation going (and spread it to others) by transferring parasite eggs under your fingernails.

can bladder suspension cause back pain?

Accepted Answer

Possible: Sometimes these can be associated with a urinary tract infection that can present as back pain.  Sometimes the activity restriction post op may allow for back pain to occur as well.  It is unlikely that the actual surgery caused the back pain unless it took an extended period of time to perform with your body in that one position.

is mesh used in a bladder tuck, and could your bladder drop so far down as to it would be laying on the pelvic bone?

Yes to both: Bladder suspensions suspend the bladder and mesh can be used to reinforce the repair and support the urethra.  There are reports/complications w/mesh described in the literature, however, an experienced surgeon that knows when ; how to use the mesh can discuss potential complications with you.  It depends on the degree of repair necessary and the quality of the tissue present to repair.

Depends on type: It is a procedure to help with stress incontinence. The procedure helps to replace the bladder/urethral angle. It can involve mesh, tape, or suture depending on the procedure.

See your dr: Sometimes the bladder repairs tight and blocks your urethra. Sometimes is as simple as retraining your bladder again. Nevertheless it is very important to have this checked.

i am 61, have had a hysterectomy, then a bladder suspension mesh, and now have been prescribed estrace (estradiol) cream to avoid mesh protrusion is this normal?

Yes: This is very standard after the surgeries you described. Using the estrogen cream will help reduce problems with the mesh, which are actually quite rare. The cream helps to tissue stay healthy and lubricated.

Hair loss ?'s: There is no evidence that "after shave" lotions, etc., can provide a remedy for hair loss.  Get some over the counter minoxidil containing treatments at your local drug store, which may reduce the rate of loss.

82yr old mom hemorrhoids that hang out she says blood in toilet. had colonoscopy few yrs ago. doc gave her prescription cream & to use witch hazel pads. how much is too much blood in toilet? doc said small amt of blood in bowl water can look shocking

Rectal bleeding: Rectal bleeding can be for various reasons. This can be from hemorroids or anal fissure.  Other causes can be proctitis, or colitis, diverticulitis/diverticulosis, GI poly or cancer. Too much rectal bleeding is associated with rapid heart rate, hypotension, light headedness.

Sutures: Usually with sutures.  Might put a catheter in the bladder to help the suturing work.
