how can i fix the gaps between my teeth, besides braces? do the ora bands really work?

Fillings or ortho: Gaps between teeth can be improved with either changing the shape of the teeth through restorative work (fillings/crowns) or changing the position of the teeth (orthodontics).  To move the teeth, depending on their position, you can use something as simple as an active retainer, to brackets and wires (traditional orthodontics).  Orabands wont move all the teeth, and will open spaces elsewhere.

Have you tried: A professional system through your dentist?   It is considerably more expensive but would be worth investigating.  Again you have to meet the criteria to be a candidate, so best to be seen by a dentist or cosmetic dentist who can evaluate you and recommend the system that is mist likely to work for you. : The "medicine" Orthodontists use not move teeth is light continuous force. If you don't wear elastics, don't apply force, your teeth will not move andnyou will be in braces forever. Isn your teeth get sore with elastic improve your oral hygiene, If gums inflamed any force will hurt. Make sure to floss or WateraPik daily. Take 1 Ibuprofen w meals. Wear elastics 24/7. Soreness will dissipate soon.

Maybe: If there is any decay or gum infection, that must be addressed first.  After that, orthodintics can proceed.

Whitening products: There are too many to list here. Whitening toothpastes only remove stain and should not be used long term. Crest whitestrips do  work but have limitations. In my opinion,  the most cost effective method involves your dentist making custom trays and supplying you with a whitening gel. You can save the trays and purchase fresh whitening gel in the future. In office method is more costly.

No: Baking soda is a good thing to brush your teeth with but not particularly effective in whitening.

Floss: To keep your teeth as healthy as possible floss after every meal. Ideally you would brush as well. The floss breaks the contact between the teeth and helps to remove the particles which bacteria feed on.

Dental bands?: I am not sure what you mean about using bands to close spaces.  However, there are numerous way to close gaps or spaces between your teeth.  Of course orthodontics can be used to align and close teeth together whether it is traditional or invisalign.  We can simply use dental bonding (resin) to add to teeth and close spaces.  Veneers and crowns can be used to change the shape of teeth, too.

Whitening products: Over the counter whitening products have very limited effectiveness at best. Crest whitestrips do work fairly well for some patients but also have limitations. If you want whiter teeth, you will have to consult with a dentist for treatment options that do work!
