Not much, if any: There is some evidence that hormonal methods containing estrogen (depo/shot, implant, pills) are associated with a little weight gain, but less with the progestin-only or "mini" pill--surely &lt; 5 lb. Non-hormonal methods--copper IUD, condoms, diaphragm--are not associated with weight gain or loss. Bottom line: weight gain or loss concerns should not be a factor in your contraceptive choice.

taking the mini pill for three months. ive now been bleeding and cramping for 14 days as if its a heavy period. i cant handle this anymore as my periods used to only be 4 days. can i stop the mini pill right now? what will happen w/bleeding?

Bleeding: One of the side effects of the Progesterone only mini pill is irregular bleeding. You can give it time to see if this self corrects. Alternatively you can see an Obgyn to determine if you are a candidate for a different form of birth control that might give you better menstrual cycle control.

This is common: when starting a pill pack. The usual course is two cycles maybe three to regulate period flow. This seems to be taking longer than expected. Reasons could be uterine lining polyps, or very thin uterine lining. Let your doctor know, as this can evaluated and treated.

Call Gyn first.: Your gynecologist knows your medical history, and reactions to previous hormonal treatment.  Touch base with them first.  Stay hydrated, and if you start to feel woozy or develop palpitations/shortness of breath, head to the nearest emergency department.
