Yes: Any new permanent filling  can increase the saliva in the mouth temporarily.  Irm and cavit temporary fillings will slowly break down in the mouth and this may be what you are experiencing if this has been going on for a while.  A gold restoration near a silver amalgam restoration can actually give you  a shock.

i have composite fillings in most of my teeth, including the front. can i safely use a dental trainer for teeth alignment, or can it cause cracks?

I don't know: What you mean by "a dental trainer". If you mean a removable orthodontic appliance such as a Hawley or a tooth aligner like Invisalign, the answer is yes you can.
Any loose composite fillings should be replaced before the teeth re - decay.

ive had my fillings replaced twice, and im still experiencing sensitivity and pain when i bite. my dentist and dental assistant have no idea whats caused this - ive never had this issue before. they constantly check my bite too. suggestions?

: Tooth pain on biting is diagnostic problem usually related to one or a combination of five things, a high restoration in the bite, a fracture in the tooth structure, inflammation at the apex of the tooth, a filling flexing under pressure when bonding to the tooth structure is inconsistent or the restortion being close to the nerve and time needed to adjust and settle.  You might want a 2nd opinion

Nope: If so, most of the world's population would have died off by now.. So many silver fillings have been placed in the last 150 years, a problem with their use would have manifested itself a long, long, long time ago.

Generally No: We ask patients to have any suspect fillings replaced before bleaching as  we do not want the bleach to get into any open areas. If there are missing fillings already or holes in the teeth these should be repaired.

Accepted Answer

Corrosion: Amalgam fillings are metal and the longer a metal stays in a wet environment the more likely it will corrode.  It's that corrosion that will cause the tooth to appear to darken.  It's also the corrosion that will eventually cause the filling to need to be replaced.

Nonsense!: Dental fillings do not increase the risk of oral cancer. This is an urban myth. If your fillings were removed, you would be at much higher risk of a shortened life from bad teeth resulting in infection than from oral cancer. Be cautious in searching the web on health issues; stick primarily with professionally run or moderated sites, like those from health departments and academic institutions.

Your opinion: In your opinion the above listed items were not checked. They may have been without you realizing it. What were you told after the exam? Do you have problems or not? It was your first visit... If you don't have faith in your provider, now is the time to change. Calling to complain will not change your opinion.. You will never trust them.

Various: There are several materials that are currently and routinely used for dental restorations.

For smaller areas: silver mercury amalgam or composite (plastic) are used.
Note: amalgam contains mercury which the epa considers hazardous waste!
for larger areas: inlays, onlays or crowns: gold or other metal including titanium or semi or non precious metals, porcelain, zirconia or porcelain on metal.
