Yes: The pathophysiologic mechanisms are complex but the basic answer to your question is that it can and does occur.

: Blood clots in the lower limb are painful, especially in the calf, worsen when the foot is elevated, and may be accompanied by foot and ankle swelling, local tender "venous cord", with/ without reddening.  However, any suspicion should result in contacting your doctor immediately.

Unlikely: Leg swelling attributed to sunburn would not be expected to cause blood clots.  Common causes of blood clots include prolonged immobility (i.e. Long plan rides), major surgery, extremity injury, and conditions associated with increased tendency to form blood clots (i.e. Cancer).

can methadone cause blood clots and or swelling and pain in leg. had blood clot a few months ago.. went away. years ago told my left side had circulation problems. more lower left leg swollen painful can't move it. must pain right under knee

Accepted Answer

A : A swollen leg with a history of blood clots is a worrisome combination.  You could very well have another clot, and blood clots in the legs can lead to bad complications.  You need to be examined for this and have an ultrasound study.

Do you have a history of injecting IV drugs into the veins in your legs?  That's a great way to damage the veins and put you at risk for leg swelling and/or blood clots.

See your OB-GYN: The progesterone content of your birth control pills may cause some swelling/ cramps and all birth control pills can cause blood clots in the leg veins. See your Primary Care Provider for a review of your susceptibility to vein problems and a review of your pill.

Ask the surgeon: The surgeon should have some thoughts on this matter, but be aware that swelling after surgery and/or a blood clot can be very slow to heal and in some cases is permanent.

Doppler and Legs: Very accurate.  There are a million other reasons for pain. Why do you think you have a dvt?

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining you. A blood clot is unlikely, however you should see your doctor for a proper evaluation. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.

swelling left neck face and leg. negative for blood clots. drs can't find anything. what could be causing this. had ct and ultrasound. all neg.

Is this something: Easily visible to others or do they have to look very closely? Are you in pain?  Are u still able to move ok? The face and leg would be unrelated, i can't think of a process that would cause swelling in both.  One sided leg swelling in absense of clot can be hard to solve. Have u lost weight? Sometimes that can result in uneven size in legs. Doesn't sound like bells palsey, r u sleeping at night?
