Things such as iron and calcium may be needed but these are not considered vitamins.

Optima health: Taking twice the amount of vitamins over the rda  can actually bring you optimal health.  The rda or minimum requirement was established during ww ii to prevent deficiency disorders such as scurvy for vitamin c and rickett's for vitami d3.  However, these same vitamins at higher concentrations can actually be used to promote optimal health.  Higher doses of vit d decreases the risk of colon cancer.
