: Autoimmune conditions are not diagnosed on labs alone. The whole clinical picture must be taken into account. It is not unusual to have a positive ANA and no defined autoimmune illness. You need to follow up with the doctor who ordered your tests for next steps.

Need more info: It depends on the clinical circumstances and associated symptoms and signs. A partial list of tests/diseases includes: Celiac disease, scleroderma. Tropical sprue, atrophic gastritis, Crohn's disease, etc. It would be prudent to see a GI doctor and s/he can decide better which tests would be more appropriate.

See below: Close to 30% of patients will have positive ana. If you did not have symptoms of autoimmune disease, it is not clear to me why this was performed.  Odds are in your favor that you probably have nothing to worry about with you currently reporting no symptoms.

Ask your doctor: Hashimoto's thyroidits is an autoimmune disease where there are antibodies to the thyroid gland. Other antibodies such as ANA may develop along with the thyroid antibodies, but only in some patients.Autoimmune suppressor - you may have misunderstood your doctor.

Symptoms can be treated as well, with pills or alternative therapies.

Autoimmune disease is a pathologic condition. There are multiple tests for autoimmune diseases. Some screen while others confirm the presence of disease. It is possible to screen positive for a test but not have the disease hence further testing is done to confirm.
