Diarrhea: This could be any of dozens of possible diagnoses. Need more info and a stool exam. Go see your local doctor. Hope this is better soon.

You should,,: You should get to an er or some other urgent care center like a hospital and get worked up.  According to your history you've had surgery and if it was recent you could have an infection like c diff. Complicating it or you might've ingested some food that might have been suspect.  Either way it's important to find out what it is and get treated soon.  Best of luck.

finished a 7 day course of bactrim for a p. mirabilis uti. still having low fever (99.6-100.1) and urinary discomfort. kidneys are fine. i'm high risk for c. diff so don't want to take cipro (or amox) if possible. anything else to try/more bactrim?

: Proteus mirabilis is usually quite sensitive to Bactrim and 7 day course is long enough unless you have bladder stone. Recurrent bladder infection with Proteus species may be coexistent with bladder stone.
Antibiotic of choice should be based on the urine culture result, was Proteus sensitive to Bactrim? Cipro may precipitate C. diff colitis but much less with cephalosporins.

im 40 yo male.  had d for 3 mo on and off.  blood and colonoscopy came back ok.  still tested pos for c.  diff colitis.  no fever either.  im in day 6. on flagyl. i have cramps after eating and fluffy loose stool.  is this something to be concerned?

Only a little: C. difficile is always something to be "concerned" about. But you are experiencing a rather mild case, and the Flagyl probably will take care of it. Cramps and loose stool could be due to C diff (symptoms often improve slowly) or the Flagyl. Complete treatment as prescribed and contact your doctor if symptoms continue. My guess your doc may have already scheduled a follow-up appointment.

Colitis possible: If you have not had an endoscopic exam with biopsy, consider that option. Occasionally incipient or subclinical diseases may be discovered by biopsy. Best wishes.

Can be life threaten: C.Diff colitis causes diarrhea and dehydration. But what is important is that it can cause the colon wall to be sick enough to lose integrity and infection from the stools can go to the blood causing sepsis. In these rare severe cases the life threatening nature of the disease may require removal of the whole colon for the person to survive.

Need a lot more info: You've given too little detail, so you'll need to provide us with more. When you say renal failure, do you mean end-stage renal disease, acute renal failure, chronic renal failure, or something else? What other things are happening with the patient besides the occasional fever? What region of the world is the patient in? Any other concomitant illnesses? How high is the fever?

No set rule.: If this is an infant, call your pediatrician.  It's harder for adults/elderly patients to mount a high temperature, so they should be checked if the fever persists.  Make sure the patient stays hydrated!

when is the best time to get a cbc? the patient is a child & have a fever.  thank you.

Accepted Answer

During fever: You have a child with a fever and want/need cbc.  Your doctor will consider the history and physical exam also not just the white blood count of the CBC in order to treat.  There is also the differential to consider in cbc.  If your child is very sick then a blood culture taking during or early in fever will be best.  Most viral infections are self limiting, the key is fluids.
