so, i get dizzy when i lay down on a really flat surface like a massage table and i have no idea why. it doesnt happen when i lay down on the bed. is there a way i get self treat dizziness? why do you think this happens? thank you! :?

: Are you lying on your stomach or back and does it happen when you lie on another hard surface like the floor? is it every time?   Neck extended when it occurs? . Would follow up with  a neurologist and consider  MRA  of neck/ head and MRI of cervical spine to check neck vessels, discs,  and rare Chiari  malformation,

Pinched nerve: Sounds like a possible pinched nerve.  See your doctor to evaluate this.  You can use Motrin to help decrease inflammation.

? Related to anxiety: You may have felt bad yest. Due to the pain or possibly due to toxins released by the massage. The symptoms you have today can all be caused by anxiety. I'm guessing that feeling bad after the massage yest. Made you anxious/worried about it ; led to your anxiety today. Try to relax.
Ps i prefer massages that are not painful- if experiencing pain in the future ask the masseur to stop causing pain!

Depends: It depends on the specific cause.  Having a tight SCM does not directly cause dizziness, but there are conditions that can cause a tight SCM and dizziness.  It is somewhat a generalization, but most dizziness is either middle ear or intracranial related or from a system is cause such as low blood pressure, medication reaction, cardiac source etc.  So, primary diagnosis must first be pursued.

Occipital neuralgia: The greater and lesser occipital nerves live in the back of the head on both sides. The lesser nerve runs towards your ear and the greater nerve runs to top of back of your head. These occipital nerves can be aggravated without any trauma. Tilting head back can cause dizziness if these nerves are aggravated. 7 days or oral steroid or 5 days of Toradol may knock out this irritation to these nerves.

If you get dizzy after going from lying to sitting or standing, then it would be important to take your time and do this slowly. If this is a chronic problem - it warrants medical evaluation.
