Materials: The cost of a composite veneer as much lower than that of porcelain .The composite veneer gets done same visit chair side , but porcelain veneers involve different tooth preparation and impressions taken and sent to the lab for making and then it gets placed on the tooth on a deferent visit, 
all that adds to the cost making it much more expensive.

Veneers: (lab fabricated) ones should be quite stain resistant.  A normal diet with good oral hygiene should give you long term enjoyment of your veneers.  Obviously avoid toffees, taffy's, coffee, cigarettes, excessive tea consumption ...  - normal common sense stuff should keep you in good shape.

Don't try to fix it: Veneers are fragile and any attempt to recement can crack the veneer.

Technically yes...: But it depends on which tooth, how malpositioned it is, and your bite. Sometimes the result is not as esthetic as having the tooth straightened orthodontically. As an adult you may be a candidate for invisalign. Have a consult to find out.

Patients who agree to veneers feel it is worth it considering the great looking smile they end up with. The teeth should be no weaker with a well fitting, properly cemented restoration.

Strength in Layers: You are right it seems they would be fragile & they are alone but there is strength in numbers - in this case the layers of the lumineers along with the tooth & the adhesive used to bond them works similarly to plywood in that the thin layers of wood gain strength by being bonded together.

Don't do it: Zirconia does not have the optical properties to make for a cosmetic restoration in the smile zone. In addition, zirconia has a very weak bonding capacity to tooth structure. While strong, zirconia is not the best choice for the front of the mouth.

can you get a veneer placed over just 1 tooth? my front bottom tooth is slightly chipped and bonding keeps falling off. is 1 veneer a good option then

Possibly : Each situation must be evaluated individually.    It's very important to figure out if it keeps breaking due to material failure of the bonding or due to other factors such as night grinding or Clenching.   A simple habit like fingernail biting can also break bonding and veneers.  Teeth are not tools.  They are not to open bags of chips,  nailclippers, icecruchers,thread cutters, etc.  Good luck
