Arm discomfort:  No it should not be uncomfortable hours later; is the right arm the site of the iv? Did it bother you at the time of the stress test? I think you should have this looked at ASAP

Inability to run: Generally an Adenosine stress test is done because the patient cannot run on a treadmill, due to pain, balance issues, or some other reason.  The Cardiolite portion is often used with traditional stress tests too, as an additional test to check for reversible ischemia.

Myocardial scan: A cardiac perfusion scan measures the amount of blood supplied to your heart muscle. Radiotracers such as thallium or  technetium sestamibi (cardiolite) are injected intravenously and travel through blood to heart muscle.2 sets of images are made during rest and  exercise and compared. Indications for this study include chest pain, previous heart attack, heart surgery and  coronary artery disease

Isotopes quite safe: Dyes are not used during nuclear stress tests. Trace radioactive isotopes are but there are no  significant reactions to these minute doses used considering the thousands of tests done around the globe daily unless one has a history of being allergic to the thallium or cardiolite.

Yes, there is.: Your physician should tell you or give you some literature on the test, what to expect, what it tests.  Dipyridamole is a medication that helps prevent thrombus formation or clot in the vessels, and may be used during stress testing (rare side effects). Stress testing usually is being hooked up to monitor, walking on treadmill while being monitored and instructed. Nuclear stress is with injection.

No: The amount of thallium given during a stress test is between 20 and 30 times less than the level where you are releasing enough radiation to be of concern. The half life of thallium is short. To be extra careful i wouldn't be worried  after 24 hrs at most.

why are such small doses of dipyridamole used for stress testing but comparatively large doses used in tablets for post stroke? surely the 'stress test' like symptoms / side effects would be unbearable with 100mg x 3 a day? thank you?

: Dipyridamole (persantine) is used to open the coronary arteries during the stress test with nuclear medicine. The diseased coronary vessel does not respond well with dipyridamole so that involved area will be identified by scan. The dose is small but it is given intravenously as a bolus so the effect is quite strong but not long lasting compared with the oral doses taken for people with stroke.

Accepted Answer

: They are all pretty close numbers but the most accurate would be the catheter angiogram. But, for functional purposes, the difference in the numbers would not make much of a difference. See your cardiologist for interpretation since he/she knows your condition best. Good luck to you!
