Depends on tumor.: The staging of each primary site (breast, lung, etc) is different.  In general n0 means no lymph nodes positive.  N1 will be limited ln metastases, n2 more extensive, n3 the worst.  N1 may be subdivided as n1a, n1b, etc.  In general the higher the n number and then the higher the letter in the subset, the worst the prognosis, but anything above n0 means cancer spread to lymph nodes.

Not necessarily: We need a little more information to answer this. Are you referring to nodules outside the organ of origin or smaller nodules near the tumor in the organ of origin. In the former situation, this implies spread via the circulation; in the latter situation, these "satellite" nodules grow by direct extension from the tumor.

i have atypical lung nodule dr is attributing to sarcoidosis as have been dx'd by bx of parotid tumor. pet said suv of 10.9 should this be of concern?

Further w/u. : How big is the lung nodule? Are you a smoker? With suv of 10.9- i think, a biopsy should be done- if possible - ( if the size and location allow tissue biopsy to be done).It could be a sarcoidois, but just because you have sarcoidosis-does not mean that this nodule is automatically one. Depending on your risk- other condition including- primary lung malignancy- has to be considered and ruled out.

Nodule=Lump: A nodule is a generic name for a "lump"  which can occur due to a tumor (growth); tumors can be benign or malignant (cancer).  However, nodules may occur secondary to inflammation or many other processes.   If you have a history of endometriosis, this may very well cause a nodule in the pelvis.

Satellite tumors can: Occur around the primary, but nodes are separate entities. The size, location of the tumor, penetrance through the bowell wall are important. The node dissection and patholgy needs to find > 13 nodes for evaluation; fewer leads to uncertainty.

Size: Small kidney nodule is less likely to be cancer. The usual break point for concern is a nodule larger than 2.0 cm.
