Both autoimmune,: Mg is peripheral, ms central.  Myasthenia is a disease of the neuromuscular junction, and causes weakness on progressive exertion, or drooping of eyelids or fluctuating double vision.  Ms is a disease of brain and spinal cord, and causes weakness and fatigue of a fairly constant type.  Loss of vision, bowel and bladder problems, loss of coordination and balance can be seen.

see details: Neither causes loss of teeth unless there is a secondary sjogren's syndrome associated with the lupus. Lupus is diagnosed by specific clinical criteria and confirmed by positive blood tests. There are numerous difference between ms and sle.

MRI: Chiari is a malformation of the cerebellum and brainstem that is well defined by mri.  There are at least three types depending on the appearance of the base of the cerebellum.  Multiple sclerosis is a disease of the white matter of the brain that is multifocal and can be seen well by MRI and by tests on the spinal fluid.  A good neurologist can easily identify the difference.

Big difference: Spondylitis would be inflamation in the spine like in ankylosing spondolitis ( marie strumpel's disease)
where as multiple sclerosis is a neurologic disorder of the brain.

Complex : Transverse myelitis may be an initial presentation of ms, but may be due to other etiologies, especially neuromyelitis optica, viral inflammations, arteritis, etc.  Clinical imaging and spinal fluid studies can sort much of this out.

White vs. Grey: Multiple sclerosis is due to multiple plaques in the white matter of the brain while parkinsonism is due to involvement of the basal ganglia (grey matter)

Yes, quite different: In back problems, nerve damage may involve extrinsic nerve compression due to a ruptured disk, or wear and tear causing narrowing of a canal.  This is associated with limb pain, numbness and weakness.  Although similar symptoms can be seen in ms, the cause is quite different involving inflammation within brain and spinal cord.

i have multiple sclerosis and am taking elavil 50 mg. i don't notice a difference in my numbness is this a high enough dose? i also take cymbslta 60

Yes/no: Individuals can be on hundreds of milligrams of amitriptyline per day; however, side effects are more likely.  I have some patients that can tolerate more than 10mg per day while some take 200mg per day without any problems.

anxiety & multiple sclerosis sure do have the same symptoms.how do you tell the difference? doc won't test for ms,even though twitching & eye problem.

MS vs anxiety: Can be tricky in some cases, but usually anxiety has "extra" symptoms and signs which are unlikely to be caused by MS.  Also signs of anxiety may be fleeting.  Eye twitching alone is not likely to be MS.  I do not know what your eye symptoms are, but a dilated eye exam can rule out involvement of the optic nerve which is a key finding for MS.
