: A viral gastrointestinal tract infection can last a week. Antibiotics are not effective for this.  If diarrhea persists get a stool culture to check for pathogenic bacteria and parasites. For now, drink lots of room temperature but not gassy fluids,eat a soft nonspicy or nongreasy diet, take kaopectate or Imodium as needed. Take simethicone 1/2 hour after meals to prevent gas buildup.

Yes: however other conditions can cause your symptoms too.  Lactose intolerance can develop in later years, as can some infectious diseases.  Spastic colon is often a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning you need to rule out other causes before coming to your diagnosis.  It's always a good idea to get an exam and confirm the diagnosis with your physician.

IBS: oral bc cause?: Oral bcp's are just a version of what your body goes through hormonally during a regular (non-pill) cycle.  IBS can be caused by stress of any kind, or by viral/bacterial gastroenteritis.  Bcp's are not involved in causing IBS, but taking them irregularly can activate endometriosis by causing estrogen levels to vary in strength. Implants in the colon are common and can lead to IBS symptoms.

Needs colonoscopy:   If you’ve had abdominal pain and other signs of IBS for at least 3 months, you may have it. Hx of Bloody diarrhea, weight losss, nocturnal diarrhea needs to  be investigated for malignancy, celiac disease, IBD..
The researchers did find that 2.5 percent of IBS patients older than 35 had a disease called microscopic colitis, which req. different RX.  In your case Colon may be indicated.

Symptoms: Symptoms of a diverticulitis flare include, abdominal pain (usually left lower side, but may be all over), possibly nausea, vomiting, rectal bleeding, fevers, change in bowels, bloating... If you think you are having a diverticulitis flare, please see your doctor to see if you need antibiotics. If untreated it could get a lot worse.
