Surgical: If the cartilage septum dividing your nasal airways is not straight, it will result in recurrent drainage, sinus infections, snoring, and severe congestion.  There are no medications which can correct this flaw in your anatomy.  Have the septum corrected, including the nearby turbinate structures inside your airway.  If you also have allergies, you may still need medication help, but airway 1st.

Not much : Most of my patients complain of nose soreness rather than pain.  There is some stuffiness and congestion that accompanies the recovery, but there should not be much pain.  I should note that I do not use nasal packing after septoplasty...This was routinely done in years past and that nasal packing was quite painful.  With these newer techniques, recovery is usually mild.
