I do not use: I am in practice for 37 years and have never used nitrous oxide. That does not mean it is not necessary. It is used mainly to manage anxiety. Good luck

Yes: Most if all states require an rda to have taken a certification class in the administration of nitrous oxide before doing so.   Nitrous oxide administration must be closely monitored by a  dentist at that location as well.

Nitrous Oxide use: First, you have to be trained and not every dentist is. Secondly, and more importantly, dental insurance companies do not generally pay for this service. Dental clinics are looking to cut costs and would have to offer this premium service at no charge, or the patients would have to pay out of pocked. Both scenarios are unlikely. You generally get what you pay for in this world.

Pill vs. IV: Oral sedation is  a process where you take meds in pill form prior to your dental procedure and you are carefully monitored in the office. The alternative is IV sedation where a line is established and meds are given that way with similar monitoring. The convenience of not having the IV is offset by the certainty of a pathway to quickly administer reversing meds if needed. Both have their place.

Nitrous: The answer is yes and yes. First, nitrous must be given continuously via nasal mask as it is quickly expelled if not (remember the dentist works in your mouth). Second, nitrous oxide at the levels that can legally be given do not result in loss of consciousness, thus you will hear conversations and noise. Sadly, many patients believe that "laughing gas" will "put them to sleep". It won't.

Nitrous Oxide safer!: Nitrous oxide is very safe and should be first tried.  Local anesthesia can be added once the nitrous oxide is in use for very effective pain control.

Choices, Priorities: Each patient has to decide on what&#x27;s important to them regarding treatment:  Quality of care, experience, training, prestige of practice, compassion, cost, convenience, sedation offered, staff, friendliness, results of treatment, decor, insurance coverage, etc.? I know what&#x27;s important to me. You have to decide on what&#x27;s important to you. Wouldn&#x27;t it be nice if every office had everything?
