Foreign body: Not necessarily.  And the fact that you have pus coming out of the foot shows that there is an infectious process.  I would recommend evaluation by a podiatrist asap.  If you can't be seen, go to the er.  You need someone to look at the foot, get the metal out, place you on antibiotics and make sure your tetanus status is up to date.

Many possibilities: This sounds like a condition that will need to be diagnosed "in person" by a podiatrist.  There are A LOT of things it COULD be.  Have a local doctor take a look.

what's the best way to remove splinter from foot? i have one at the bottom of my foot, close to the toes, and looks to be really deep in.

Accepted Answer

There are many: folk rememdies--tape, baking soda, etc--but I can't endorse any of them.  The tried and true: wash hands well, eyebrow tweezers sterilized in alcohol, pull out. Magnifying glass and good light help. If deep, use sterilized needle to break through skin and lift skin on top of splinter. Lift up splinter with needle, pluck out with tweezer. If too deep, to Doc or ER. Good luck!!

You : You didn't mention anything about the state of your general health.  I would wonder if you're a diabetic or have circulation problems.

Either way, i'd be concerned about the development of a bone infection.  Has the toe been x-rayed since it ulcerated?  Did anyone try to probe the ulcer to see if it is deep to the bone?  You may need several months of antibiotics, and possibly even surgery if the bone is infected.

If you feel none of your doctors are looking into this, you may want to get another opinion.  Bone infections are serious.

Office vist: A heel splinter will go deeper if child continues to walk on foot, and likely will get inflamed, complicating removal. Soaking in warm water before the exam should soften the skin and make removal easier.  Sometimes the central core of a plantar wart will resemble a splinter, so exam will best determine Rx.

i have athletes foot with a layer of blisters. i popped the first and the one under and when i popped that there was some blood in it. but there's another deep one under that, that appears to be mostly blood. it really hurts. how do i treat at home?

OTC Fungal Cream: If this is atheletes foot you can try over the counter medications targeted for Athletes foot.  They come in cream form.  Ask your pharmacist if you need help.  Or you can visit a doctor and get a prescription

Would avoid: "Bathroom surgery". If the credit card trick - scrape against the splinter  didn't work - I would not dig for it. The simplest option is to see a podiatrist.  P.S. When was your last tetanus shot? Take care.

Normal: Any time someone has a splinter some of the blood vessels are broken causing a bruise.  It should go away after a couple of weeks.
