there are 3 dark brown spots along the spine ,the thoracic vertebrae . it has been causing pain for a month now. i'm wondering what is that?

3 dark spots/pain: Would f/u/ w/ dermatologist. anything lasting &gt; 1 month should be evaluated. May be bites, may be folliculitis, erythema  nodosum, keratosis actinic( from sun ) or seborrheic ( usually in older individual) or moles ( nevi)  including melanoma f/u/ w/ dermatologist this week or so  as some may need removal.

my daughter has 5 red spots right along spine. she feel down a baby slide outside  wondering if this could be from that?

Accepted Answer

Maybe: if the bumps are all in a row over the bumps (spinous processes) of the spine, the this is probably the case. If the redness starts spreading, she's running a fever or has other signs of infection take her to her doctor.

neck fusion 5 m ago on c5 6 & 7.have pain below the fusion in different spots along my spine & shoulders . pt not helping , what's my next move, mri ?

Ask your Surgeon: You will need to get re-evaluated by your surgeon. He/she has to examine you to arrive at a diagnosis. A times just some bursitis can be causing your symptoms, other times there may be other issues at play. Or it can simply be normal healing. But re-imaging with xrays and MRI may be needed with continued symptoms (especially if things are not improving). If you smoke, stop immediately.

Unable to answer: T1 images will show water, air, and cortical bone as dark. T2 images will show air, cortical bone, and other hydrophobic substances as dark. So depends on image acquisition and anatomy.

Visualize lesion: These lesion needs to be visualized (at minimum) to try to make an accurate assessment. Consider virtual medical eval or in-person assessment.

Checkup: Not sure what the spot is due to.  The peripheral nerves run in a linear pattern along the back. The area you are describing corresponds to the Thoraic or mid back vertebra. The dizzy part is most concerning. Could be getting shingles, herniated disc.  vestibular involvement due to a URI. See a Doctor for checkup.

Bulging discs: There are 7 vertebral bodies in the neck (cervical spine), 12 in the mid back (thoracic spine), and 5 in the low back (lumbar spine). Between each vertebral body is a disc made of cartilage.  When discs begin to show signs of degeneration or arthritis, they bulge and can lead to mild to moderate narrowing of the spine. Nonoperative treatment is usually the first line of therapy.

Sometimes further physical examination, blood work,  and a spinal fluid tap may be necessary to get a diagnosis.
