Not sure of your : Question but a precancerous polyp regardless of the location in the colon is concern for futue polyp/cancer development especially if high grade dysplasia was present. Follow your surgeon's or GI doctors advice on follow up colonoscopy, but i usually recommend a colonoscopy 1 year after surgery.

No: Adenoma is not cancer but she should be followed and if they become larger she need the biopsy.

if a patient has a tumor in the transverse colon, and a pre-cancerous polyp in the ascending colon, would both colon sections need to be resected?

Accepted Answer

It depends.: If the gastroenterologist is fairly certain that the precancerous polyp was removed completely, and the pathology results confirm that, then the ascending  colon would not need to be resected.  Depending on the results of the local lymph nodes, the surgeon might be able to get by with resecting just the transverse colon. Good luck.

11mm flat polyp in ascending colon, last csp was 5 years ago and was clear. is this a concerning size and type of polyp for a 29 y/o female whose mom has hx of polyps and dad was dx with stage 3 rectal cancer at age 35? will i always have polyps now?

: Not necessarily. But with your family history you need a closer followup and possibly genetic testing

29 y/o female, dad - colon cancer, mom- polyps. my 2017 colonoscopy - clear, 2022 repeat - one flat polyp 11mm in ascending colon. waiting on path, but is this concerning based on size/shape? 3yrs too long for repeat? im a scared young mom here?

: At least the flat polyp was taken out so you should not worry too much because your concern does not change the outcome, just patiently wait for the biopsy result.

: If liver function blood tests were normal, with a normal mrcp there's a good chance that the dilated bile ducts are insignificant. Erosive gastritis would not cause large amounts of mucus in stools, but inflammatory bowel disease can. Was there any sign of Crohn's disease in your studies as associated abdominal pain is strongly suggestive of inflammatory bowel disease. Was the ileum seen clearly?

Specific vs general: A colon polyp is a more specific type of a colon lesion. A colon lesion can be any type of colon abnormality including cancer, polyp, ulcer, atrophy, avm, etc.

: They are too different things. Best follow your doc's advice and you will be OK
