Hang in there!: Long standing cystic conditions require long time medical management due to the various manifestations such as infection, painful pressures, and odor.  Stay under the care of a good dermatologist and/or surgeon.  Also consider skin hygiene.  Keep nails very short.  Do not bite nails, Clean all skin folds twice daily with mild soap and rinse and  dry.  Keep all toilets sterilized with Clorox.

Unlikely cancer: I assume that you have had full work up with lab testing and physical exam prior to scheduled biopsy in 2 days.  At 18 yrs old, and stable symptoms for 5 yrs, cancer unlikely but biopsy will be very important in making exact diagnosis.   If your blood tests including Complete blood count &amp; comprehensive chemistry panel normal, that is a good thing. Good luck with your biopsy and let us know report

Yes it can. "Cyst" is somewhat of a general term as there are many types of cysts. By your description, you may have an infected cyst if you are having tenderness/pain and it feels like it is enlarging. Sometimes infections that are deeper will not clearly show much redness over the skin. It may be worthwhile getting it examined by a physician. Hope you feel better soon!

Depends: If this is truly a cyst then sometimes surgically removing it is the best option.  Injecting it with steroids can also help things like this to resolve.  And if this is possibly infected then antibiotics may be necessary.  Having this evaluated in person will be the safest option if it is bothering you.
