Hard one: That is hard to answer. Many cold medications have dextromethorphan or decongestants both of which should be avoided with cymbalta. Here are some things that are safe: tylenol, (acetaminophen) guaifenesin, nasal saline, Honey for cough or sore throat and most throat lozenges

Cymbalta (duloxetine): It's approved for the treatment of depression, neuropathic pain, anxiety, and fibromyalgia.  The most common side effects include nausea, dry mouth, headache, diarrhea, constipation, insomnia, dizziness, sleepiness, reduced appetite, sweating, abdominal pain, vomiting, and a decrease in sexual function.

One option: that can be discussed with his physician - is using acupuncture as an adjunctive treatment. I would not anticipate it to be a cure - but it can often be quite helpful.

i am on 60mg cymbalta (duloxetine) daily the diarrhea side effect has been constant for the three months being on this medication.  how common is this? stop abupt?

Do Not Stop Abruptly: You need to call prescriber of your Cymbalta (duloxetine) and let them know.  Cymbalta (duloxetine) can actually cause constipation too so it may not even be what is causing the diarrhea - which could be from a number of other things.  Either way, stopping Cymbalta (duloxetine) abruptly is usually not advised unless another similar medication is being substituted.

but i am still not feeling well and cannot sleep unless i take a medication for sleep.
i will be seeing my dr. tomorrow and i want some relief. this has been going on for over 2 years.

Probably not an issue: The timing of Cymbalta (duloxetine) dosing is in part influenced by patient preference and convenience.  However, in my experience, the higher the dose, the more tired some people get.  Also, because of the potential GI side effects, taking it during mealtime can be of benefit. It can increase your appetite, reduce your sense of satiety when you eat, induce sedation you then attempt to manage by eating more, or improve a depression that caused you to initially lose weight. Your weight loss will depend on why you gained weight. For example, if it was from battling sedation, you can begin to lose weight immediately.
