i am on 60mg cymbalta (duloxetine) daily the diarrhea side effect has been constant for the three months being on this medication.  how common is this? stop abupt?

Do Not Stop Abruptly: You need to call prescriber of your Cymbalta (duloxetine) and let them know.  Cymbalta (duloxetine) can actually cause constipation too so it may not even be what is causing the diarrhea - which could be from a number of other things.  Either way, stopping Cymbalta (duloxetine) abruptly is usually not advised unless another similar medication is being substituted.

Lower dose to 30: Yes,Cynbalta can cause somnolence because of its neurotransmitter norepinephrine, so should be taken at night to minimize such effect.
Also has serotonine reuptake which can cause the diarrhea, although if you have IBS, it is difficult to know what is causing it. 
The diarrhea and the somnolence should inprouve with time, perhaps a more gentle titration should be considered(30Mg).

See GI: Consider getting a colonoscopy.  By the way, did the diarrhea start after you were on an antibiotic?   If so, one must rule out pseudomembranous colitis.

Depends: It depends on the cause or source.  If medication, it needs to flush from your system - each medicine has it's own halflife of clearnace from the body.  In some cases, if the med causes a heart rhythm issue, it may not get better and may worsen.  Same thing goes for antibiotics - they may induce c-diff colitis and symptoms will not improve. If not improving, seek evaluation and further care.

Diarrhea : The combination of diarrhea and nausea can be tricky to figure out without a careful history, including travel history, review of medications, and a physical examination. A consultation with his physician and some testing on stool may be necessary.

GIardiasis: This is a typical description of giardiasis.  You should be tested for this and appropriate treatment.  If you have had it so long, you need to be treated with Tinidazole or metronidazole, Your family members may also need to  be treated.

The Brat's Revenge: Why don't you chill on that. Let your poor G.I. tract readjust and normalize.Unless you're so stopped-up your ears are pulsating, just eat a normal diet with plenty of liquids and fiber and see what happens over the next few days.Prune or other thick concentrated fruit juices(apricot,pear)work for some people.Metamucil might get the gut going but don't stress over it, that'll just make it worse

diagnosed with cdif 7 mos ago. started rifaximin 6 days ago, diarrhea relief was within a day & more immediate than past antibiotics. but now, day 5 & 6 i have watery diarrhea. rifaximin side effect, can it still be effective against cdif?

: I haven't had any experience with rifaximin but it's considered effective for treating c diff. Since watery diarrhea occurred after day 5 of treatment, I recommend contacting your prescribing physician and notifying him/her about the watery diarrhea. A repeat culture may be ordered. After multiple movements ask if an antidiarrhea medication would be ok. Drink lots of fluids to combat dehydration
