Sure: this involves putting an eye drop in that paralyzes the ciliary muscle (the muscle in the eye that allows you to change focus).  There are many reasons to do this and particularly in children in order to get the most accurate refraction.  We usually don't do this in adults although sometimes it is necessary.

Dilated measurement: Children have amazing powers of accomodation, which is the technical term for the ability to use muscular control to alter the focusing power of the eye.  "Cycloplegia" is a chemical induced paralysis of these muscles so the basic power of the eye can be measured.  This is used to help calculate the actual prescription need by the child and also helps in examination of the back of the eye.

Immunoglobulin  E: This immunoglobulin looks at the body's response to allergy or parasite. When the level is elevated, the body is either creating a reaction to a parasite or allergens. In this case, the level seems high (according to our standard numbers), so I would say he needs to be evaluated and treated for parasites and then his IgE will come down on its own! Good Luck
