Cutis gyrata: There is a primary and secondary form of the disease. The primary form may be combined with genetic conditions the secondary form is caused by inflammatory processes like eczema or psoriasis and causes furrowing and thickening of the skin of the scalp

    Uncommon (1 in 100,000) conditions which don't lead to massive morbidity or mortality often don't get funding.

Variable: I've seen these as small as .25 inch & as large as 4 inches & the type of defect varies.Some just have a bald spot & some have a weepy skin defect. The smaller weepy ones can seal off over a week or more while the larger ones may specialized wound care.

It is not life threatening, although the underlying problem might be. You may be confusing this with calciphylaxis, which is a medical emergency that has to be addressed immediately.
