Do patients ever require surgery to remove excess or diseased tissue? Of course. But that is not to say that is what you would require. See your own dentist to evaluate what you are feeling. If might be a very simple fix that does not require any surgery at all!

Dark red swelling would suggest a collection of blood, i.e., possible hematoma or bruise, and sensation of a sharp cut suggests a history of trauma.  You need to be seen by a dental professional for further evaluation and treatment as indicated.

Unlikely: That is  very unlikely (but not totally inpossible ) unless you both have bleeding gums or lips? However there are more contagious things besides HIV and best if any one is bleeding best not to share drinks etc.

Depends: The recovery time depends on the severity of the injury. However the facial area heals rather rapidly and I would expect the swelling to subside in less than a week in most cases unless it is infected.

: Dry mouth and the white bumps are likely unrelated. A wound in the mouth can have white surface, it will heal on its own. Drink enough water so that your urine is mostly colorless to ensure that you are not dehydrated.

TMJ?  See a dentist: It sounds like you may have a muscle spasm causing you the pain and the problem with opening.  There are several possible causes.  You need to see a dentist to get a definite diagnosis.  In the mean time you can try gentle stretching, advil, (ibuprofen) soft diet and time to see if it goes away.
