Vocal Hygiene: Proper voice hygiene is very important for healthy vocal cords. Give your voice frequent rests. Stay hydrated, drink water as much as you can. Avoid or minimize caffeine and alcohol. No smoking at all. Use a humidifier where you teach and sing. Exercise and eat healthy, this will minimize silent reflux which can slowly and silently affect your voice. Use your diaphragm more to sing. Hope this help

Get checked out: People misusing their voices are abusing their vocal cord leading at times to vocal cord nodule. The cough and sore throat are unusual however. There is no home remedy other than stopping abusing your vocal cord and that may mean no more singing until you can evaluated by a vocal cord specialist whom you should see anyway.

ENT evaluation.: Singers can get vocal cord polyps, so it would be wise to undergo direct laryngoscopy by an ENT physician.

Pulmonary testing: A pulmonary function test and flow-volume loop may be useful in determining if you have a condition called vocal cord dysfunction. 
Drink soothing liquids, take spoons of honey and rest your voice when you are able to do so.

do i go to a gp or straight to ent?

Whose available ?: An ENT might see you directly but an appointment may take a while. A GP could likely see you sooner &amp; would have sway getting you in faster with an ENT. Your insurer may require such a referral. Your choices will require a bit of effort to fine out who can seee you &amp; when.

See ENT again: 5 months is a long time, and if your symptoms have persisted, I think another consultation is needed. Did the ENT doctor directly visualize your vocal cords before saying there was nothing wrong?  I think another look is warranted.

Not throat cancer: Cancer won't announce itself like this, especially at your age. It's a relatively slow-growing ulcer or mass that is cruelly subtle in its initial presentation. Being a singer, you're already protecting yourself from most forms of throat cancer by not smoking. Best wishes.

Singer: Great question.  Could be dehydration silent acid reflux or vocal cord nodules aside  from drinking more fluids see an ENT to look at your vocal cords.

Depends: This can be from many causes. It could be vocal hygeine, acid reflux, nasal drainage. The best way to be checked is to see your local ENT who can perform endoscopy and evaluate your vocal cords.
