Yes: The rate of progress in understanding and management of HIV disease has been incredibly rapid.  They have not yet solved the issue of reservoir infections with the virus sitting inactively in certain cells from which the infection can recur when therapy is withdrawn.  Nobody can predict when this will be solved, but suspect it will in next several years.

Almost: Today's medical regimen has vastly improved lives of patients with aids to the point where they can lead normal lives - a good example is magic johnson. It is not  a cure but the HIV can be managed. We are still working on a vaccine.

I wish we knew how: We have learned so much about HIV in the last 20+ years, and treatment for HIV is light years ahead of where we were even 15 years ago. But, once it integrates into cells' dna, we do not know how to dislodge it yet, so we do not know how to cure it. But the medications available today are highly effective, simpler to take, have low side effects, and should provide a near-normal life expectancy.

Any studies?: I visited the companies website to learn more about this product. I also tried to search to see if there have been any published studies about the active ingredient and impact on hiv. I was not able to find any data to support the claim that this product can treat or cure hiv. I would suggest spending your money on something else. If you have hiv, talk to doctor about medical treatment options.

: This is a public information site where volunteer doctors answer questions about specific health conditions. We are not in the fortune-telling business.  I'm sure there will be cures for just about everything eventually, but I would not hazard a guess as to when for any specific disease, much less one as complicated as HIV.

No, unfortunately: Once HIV is detected, it has gotten into cells in the body and we do not currently know how to completely eliminate (cure) this infection. It does look like early antiretroviral therapy may provide benefit in terms of stabilizing the immune system. See a doctor as soon as possible if you have any suspicion that you could have gotten hiv.

Getting closer: Treatment of HIV with anti-virals has significantly improved over the last several decades to the point that patients are living significantly longer and in "remission.". However, there is no cure yet.  Former los angeles laker magic johnson is an example.

Yes and Yes!: As an HIV provider, i definitely have hope that HIV can be cured in the future.  It has not been easy as the virus is elusive.  I feel that we are still missing some critical piece of information about HIV that may lead to the cure.  The good news is that there are many excellent meds.  Complera (emtricitabine and rilpivirine and tenofovir) is the newest 3 meds in 1 combination pill that just came out.  There are others on the way soon!

HIV: Many people never have symptoms of acute HIV infection which most often presents similar to mononucleosis and may last 4-6 wks on average. Subsequent symptoms may occur years later and are due to the infections and tumors due to immunosuppression by hiv. It cannot yet be cured, but is quite manageable with medications. If you have been exposed please go and be tested, earlier the better.
