i really need to get rhinoplasty. it would involve shaving the bone and all though, would they have to use general anesthesia or could they use local?

General or MAC: If bone work is involved i would not consider local. You could have general or possibly local with sedation (mac). Talk to your surgeon.

why would my mri show my distal clavicle as white with all other bone dark? my ortho will be shaving down that end just wondering what would cause it.

Sclerosis: Degenerative changes ocurting in the joint between the clavicle and the acromion can cause sclerotic changes to occur in the clavicle.  This makes the bone marrow a different density and therefore a different color of the Mari scan from more normal areas of bone.

rhinoplasty: is shaving the nose bridge bone a proper way to narrow the nose instead of breaking the bone?  i was told by a surgeon this was correct.

Accepted Answer

Different things: Shaving, filing, trimming or resecting the nasal bridge will reduce the size of the bump on the nose, and help give a straighter profile, but doesn't narrow the nose.  But once this is done, there is now a gap between the two nasal bones, known as "the open roof".  This has to be closed - and most commonly this is done by "in-fracturing" the nasal bones, to get them back together in the midline.

It is theoretically: possible, but that would be very lucky indeed.

in case of severe foot bunion.is it possible to make a shaving surgery just to shave a little bit of the protruding bone without realigning the bones.just shaving to make the bunion a little more appealing.is this possible?any drawbacks???

Podiatrist: A podiatric surgeon would have to examine your bunion  to best determine your treatment options.

exostectomy to correct failed osteotomy surgery? had bunion surgery on both feet, left 2018 - successful, right 2020 - toe straight but there's a large bump on the side now. would shaving the bone fix issue? currently have pins in both 2keep straight?

: Bunion procedures are not so that one procedure fits all. Every foot is different. The skill of the surgeon is responsible for any complications.  There are exceptions. If the incorrect procedure  was chosen , failure is going to happen. This is what makes bunion surgery very difficult to be 100%, 100% of the time.  I would recommend going back to original surgeon and get a second opinion .

i have had left knee pain off and on for years and several years back a procedure was performed where shaving of some bone spurs was done.  my knee pain has come and gone since.  however, about 1 year ago, i injured it by lifting my leg and with some force met the corner of a wall with the top of my knee.  x-rays showed no break.  doctor prescribed pt, which did not help.  pain has continued/worsened.  there is now bruising (black and blue) on the inside of my knee. is this worrisome?

Knee pain: I assume you have an orthopedic surgeon who can examine and advise you. An MRI of the knee would seem advisable to look for internal derangement of the joint. I don't think that a simple xray would give you enough information.

Yes, but...: Adult bones are stiff and children's bones are somewhat malleable.  Therefore, when an adult breaks a bone, it usually breaks all the way through.  In children, small fractures can happen that only "dent" the bone rather than break it all the way throughout.

Sorry am unable --: To understand the question clearly.
There is no such thing, that i know, called sitz bone. The bones we sit on are the ischiums.
Sitz baths are used for hemorrhoids or after surgery for them.
You might rephrase the question, if i haven't answered it to your satisfaction.

Commonest fracture: In the United States in persons under the age of 75 years the most frequent fracture is a colles fracture (just above the wrist).  Over the age of 75 the most frequent fracture is a fracture of the hip bone.
