Not usually.: A sinus ct looks at the bone and soft tissue of the several facial sinus cavities. In general, intravenous contrast material is not necessary. However, there are certain circumstances under which contrast media may be helpful, particularly if they're looking for a tumor or cancer. But for general sinus symptoms, it's not usually indicated.

Possibly: Ct scans of sinuses are generally very good tests to evaluate for sinus disease. However, all tests can have their faults. If there is still something wrong that fits into sinus disease then you may need to see an ENT and possibly get a scope.

why do i need an mri w/wo contrast before i even have an appointment. i had an mri 2 years before but they say it isn't acceptable? i also had a ct which showed air fluid level in sphenoid of 7mm and maxillary sinus disease. do i need to see a neuro?

: You have not indicated what the MRI would study/what doctor you are seeing and what the question is about. Old studies are a snapshot in time at the time they were done. New studies are a snapshot of what is going on in the present. Without more information and a clear indication of the problem nothing more can be offered. You are welcome to start over.

Understandable: Ct scans emit a lot of radiation. It puts you at a slightly greater risk. Get annual physicial exams.

hi doctors. i had an mri of the brain which noted complete opacification of left frontal sinus. my ent wants me to have a ct scan of the sinuses, no contrast--could you please tell me what the dr is concerned about and what the dr may be looking for?

: The CT scan is necessary to carefully evaluate the bony anatomy, to rule out some forms of  tumorAnd possibly to assess the best surgical approach. I would proceed with the CT scan as planned. It is probably a chronic fluid collection that needs to be appropriately drained.
