i received the flu shot monday afternoon. i didnt feel any pain or soreness. 4 days after  redness, itchiness, and bumps appear for the first time at injection site. is this normal? also the placement of shot seemed a little further back then usual.

Accepted Answer

Not uncommon: This is not totally unexpected and perhaps reflects that you may have some antibody left over from previous immunizations or infection.  If this bothers you a lot, try taking an NSAID +/- topical cortisone cream.

i got my flu shot 3 days ago and my arm is still a bit sore and a light bruise/ redness below the injection site. normal? i've never had a reaction.

Reassurance : Yes. It happens. With new flu shot chances to have reactions increases. You can use calamine lotion to help yourself

See ENT: If you have throat pain for months and have not responded to allergy medications, you need to see an ENT to check out your throat.

Pain after CT: If it is not at the injection site, could you please clarify where you are feeling the pain?

Small hematoma: A little bleeding around the injection site. You can put cool compresses on the area and keep it elevated for a while. Nonsteroidal meds for pain. This will almost certainly subside and you can check with your doctor in a week or so if it seems worse.

2 days: May take up to 2 days for bruising and injection site soreness to resolve.
A bruise changes colors blue, green, yellow and fades away in about 7 days.
By 10 days it should be back to normal.

does hyaluronidase cause any swelling or redness at the injection site?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: Some people get allergic to hyaluronidase.  It is used to dissolve fillers- hyaluronic acids.  Give your filler a couple days to settle in before dissolving if you can as it is expensive to have fillers placed.

Yes: Any vaccine can cause swelling and soreness at the injection site. Tyleno or advil (ibuprofen) may help but it should go away in a few days.

See a doctor: You likely have an injection site infection.  You should see a physician immediately.  I have seen patients ignore this sort of thing and end up with multiple surgeries and once even an amputation to correct it.  Go to your physician or the er immediately.

Amphadase : Amphadase (hyaluronidase inj) is a preparation of purified bovine testicular hyaluronidase, a protein enzyme. Each vial contains 150 USP units of hyaluronidase per ml with 8.5 mg sodium chloride, 1 mg Edetate disodium, 0.4 mg calcium chloride, monobasic sodium phosphate buffer, and not more than 0.1 mg thimerosal (mercury derivative). It is possible to have an allergic reaction to any or all of these ingredients. If you have had a reaction in the past or suspect that you may be allergic to the contents then you should identify these concerns to your practitioner. Barring allergic reactions there is usually a small amount of redness at the site of injection and this usually goes away in 1-3 hours.
