Accepted Answer

Any need for: Long term crutch use can require lofstrand, or forearm crutches. Axillary crutches are not intended for long term. So if some one needs crutches long term, say from nerve damage in legs leading to weakness, they may require these types of crutches.

Get knee straight: Keep working on getting knee straight to avoid contracture. Manipulation? Of knee or back? If of knee, manipulation can cause some trauma that will lead to pain, especially at medial compartment, shouldnt last more than month. Si probably locking up from change in gait, along with crutch use. Discuss with your ortho, but continue pt to strengthen, consider nsaids for inflamation from manipulation.

can being on crutches 7 weeks cause back pain? 
i am having extreme back pain as if i can't bend it brings me to tears. i have a hx of bulging dics.

My aching back.: Even if crutches are adjusted perfectly, they can still lead to back pain. Crutches that are too short can cause stooping over and also cause back pain. Too much weight on the shoulders can cause muscles in the back to be over stressed. Even the swing through movement can lead to back pain.

Foot pain: It would be best to figure out why u have foot pain . If there is no history of trauma and no skin changes ,you should be seen  by a doctor

Accepted Answer

: Low back pain is mostly caused by injury to a muscle (strain) or ligament (sprain). Common causes include improper lifting, poor posture, lack of regular exercise, fracture, ruptured disk, or arthritis. You should use alternating hot pads/cold pads, and pain relievers such as acetaminophen for relief. Rest the area for several weeks. Crutches can make the pain worse due to using back muscles.

the palm of my hand was hurting i figured it was cause of my crutches,when i looked i have a small lump under my skin kind of dark is it a bloodclot?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: Probably not a blood clot in the typical use of the term.  It could be a small hematoma or a pressure phenomena from rhe crutch use.  I would let your doctor look at it and an exam alone will likely determine the diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

orif&im nailing of tibia 2months ago.doc said no weight bearing but can walk with crutch.can i sit on chair&hang leg.is that little weight cause prob?

Should be OK: The problem is YOUR weight--if intending to bear partial weight or toe-touch weight, but then lose balance and now have all of your weight on that side--it can impact the repair / healing. If just the weight from the rest of the extremity and gravity--not a big deal.

on crutches 4 foot/ankle fractures. no weight as per dr. crutch use caused rib displacement.now crutch use and movement are extr painful. suggestions?

Adjust the crutches: Sometimes adjusting the height of the crutches and/or adding padding can help.  If not, i would suggest switching to a walker.  Worst case scenario would be to use a wheelchair for some time until you progress your weightbearing status.  Good luck!

what would you recommend for treatment for a missed cuboid stress fracture (caused by walking for exercise)? would crutches help 4 months later?

See podiatrist/ortho: What your next step should be depends on how you feel now, &amp; how severe the fracture is.  See an orthopedist that deals with foot &amp; ankle problems or a podiatrist that does.  I see that you're on warfarin, heparin &amp; taking tylenol (acetaminophen).  It is NOT a good idea to take Tylenol (acetaminophen) with those meds. If you have been doing so, call MD, it can increase the effect of those meds, and cause too much blood thinning.
