Crunches: These will help. You can try any of the variations on the cable pulldown (photo) as well, for greater resistance and maybe less getting dizzy. You'll only be able to see your definition if you also diet / do aerobic exercise and get rid of almost all of your body fat. This is itself really healthy for a guy.

Abdominals: Happens all the time to me too....it's just cramping of the muscles from overuse. Once you build up your tolerance to the amount of ab exercises you do, it will happen less often

Crutches: It sounds like you think the new pain is related to the recent use of crutches.  You don't describe the pain with any detail at all.    It sounds to me like you should be evaluated.
