Gerarally it's is best to keep the area clean with an antibacterial soap and let the hair grow out. Putting cream on the area often interferes with this process. If necessary we are more likely to treat with oral antibiotics or drain any severe lesions. All the best and I hope this recovers soon.

can i use nystatin cream for pityrosporum folliculitis?

Accepted Answer

No, but...: I do not believe Nystatin works on pityrosporum, but ketoconazole and selenium sulfide do!. Try otc Nizoral ad shampoo or selsun blue shampoo and lather it up on the affected areas x 5 minutes daily and wash it off in the shower. Do this for 2 weeks and see if you had success!

can i use ketoconazole cream on my face for folliculitis?

Accepted Answer

Can, but not helpful: Folliculitis is a result of bacterial overgrowth/infections of your hair follicles...Typically just annoying rather than dangerous. It is basically a small zit. So, topical or oral acne medications can help.
Ketoconazole is an antifungal cream (good for ringworms, jock-itch, athlete foot etc.) and will not do anything to the bacteria above.
It won't do you harm, but won't do any good.

No antifungal.: Folliculitis on the buttocks is usually caused by a superficial bacterial infection.  Therefore, antifungals are not usually effective for folliculitis. A topical antibiotic such as prescription Clindamycin is my treatment of choice for folliculitis.

Start over: Where is the folliculitis? What symptoms? How severe? What was the oral prescription? What was the cream? Details of how you shave? If you wish to have a chance to modify this, you must explore all this after an exam by a Dr with experience treating folliculitis, usually a dermatologist.

Accepted Answer

Could: Steroid dampen the infection fighting ability of skin and steroid cream may contribute to infection of the hair follicles.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex. 
Get HPV vaccine.

: That's a somewhat unusual location for folliculitis; there are few hair follicles on the underside of the penis. If the "white spots" are blisters or pimple-like, get checked ASAP for herpes. Good luck.

: Since these spots, which are usually slighly raised, &amp; are on a hairless area of the penis they could be harmless Fordyce spots occurring from ectopic sebaceous glands within the skin of the penis. I believe a dermatologist would be best to evaluate and advise you.

have  folliculitis in pubic area , using flucloxacillin + kenacomb cream. now have sticky white crust on undies, what is it? is this a worrying sign?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: Although, it is really hard to know without seeing it, but if the antibiotic you are taking is the right choice one, crusting may represent healing. I am not sure what you are using the cream for but mixed in with pus it may dry up causing crusts to develop.

i get boils and fine pimples on my inner thighs. dr says folliculitis. two rounds of clox and topical cream, goes away & comes back. suggestions?

Has it been cultured: Do you shave there? If yes, try to avoid. Also keep area dry if you can. 
Have they cultured the area to see what bacteria is there?
