i had the stomach bug for 10 days and now after 4 weeks still have soft stool and a slightly cramping stomach. my appetite is normal. is that normal?

Colitis: Viral gastroenteritis usually clears by now but can leave behind an irritable bowel which is aggravated by harsh roughage in your diet. If the problem persists much longer or worsens, see your md who will arrange for culture of the stool sample to check for abnormal pathogens which may require treatment. In the meantime follow a low roughage diet for a short while.

This is most commonly cause by viral infections, but occassionally bacteria or parasites are the cause.  People who have had previous abdominal surgery, especially of the digestive tract, should seek medical attention.

Screening is done from 50 to 75 yr age After 85 not indicated, gap patient  choice.Predisposed people with  genetic factor , polyposis, ulcerative colitis etc do not fall into this category , more frequent surveillance is needed
