Not exactly: Tics can involve muscles in the head, face, arms, legs or any muscle group in the body.  Facial tics are the most common.  The cause of tics is unknown, but brain damage as from traumatic brain injury rarely cause tics.  The cause is usually genetic, but there is evidence that tics may also arise as a consequence of certain infections such as strep.

can you get brain damage from tic where you jerk your head back and forth pretty quickly, but short distance, frequently for months till head aches?

Don't think so: The brain is by design provided with the equivalent of a bubble wrap cushion within the skull. The short distance that such tics would throw the head will not generate enough pressure to disturb the contents. Fatigue within the muscles surrounding the skull would be an easy cause of a headache.

Unlikely: Absent loss of consciousness, seizures, arm/leg weakness, altered vision, persistent severe post traumatic headaches, you likely will have no ill effects. It actually takes fairly hard trauma to the head to hurt someone your age.

Generally not: The brain as an important organ is surrounded by protective layers. The skin of the head &amp; skull are good at absorbing trauma. Inside the skull are layers of protection like bubble wrap, supported by a layer of fluid that absorbs trauma. What you describe sounds minimal &amp; unlikely to trigger any damage.

Concussion: Any injury to the head causes loss of brain cells, the question is how many - and this is usually proportional to the severity of the head injury. A minor bump to the head usually damages very few (if any) brain cells. If you have symptoms of worsening headache, loss of consciousness, weakness, speech deficit, seizures, drowsiness etc, see a doctor.

Possible; unlikely!: Theoretically, any clonk to the noggin can cause an internal bleed, but your single-staple laceration bespeaks a relatively minor injury. Of course, if the laceration was accompanied by a series of blunt blows, there could be more than meets the eye. If you have persistent or worsening headaches, blurry or double vision, then seek md evaluation. Otherwise, stop getting hit with keys or anything!

Significant force: Not usually in adults unless severe incident in high speed motor vehicle accident. In infants can cause intracranial hemorrhage with sheering of blood vessels, so called shaken baby syndrome.

Might be trouble: Worrying about getting hit by a humanly-thrown ping-pong ball is likely to cause more damage than the ball itself. Excessive worrying or unnatural worrying are both detrimental to one's health. One's primary care doctor can help, or refer to a psychologist if needed. Let the ping-pong balls land where they may.
