Accepted Answer

A physics question!: How big is the room (volume), what is air flow in the room, and what is the weight of the particulates(peanut dust)? This is a real question of applied physics and not an easy answer. Hepa filters, especially hospital grade ones do a good job of air clearance.

good morning. my 3 year old daughter is complaining about chest pains. she is ohk but about three times she complained about chest pains after eating peanuts. could it be an allergic reaction to the peanuts?

Accepted Answer

Maybe not: This sounds more like indigestion/intolerance than an allergic reaction. The entrance to the stomach is located just behind the heart &amp; acid backwash triggered by any food would trigger such symptoms.

GERD, hiatal hernia: Tou may have a hiatal hernia and you most likely have gastriesophageal reflux disease.  This is fixable. You should get a barium upper GI study to examine for a hiatal hernia.

im allergic to some foods,i take claritin in the daytime and benadryl at night,sometimes when i go to church stuff and theyre giving us stuff like cake or cupcakes i get a sharp pain in my hand after eating them, same with peanuts,so why do i get it?

Accepted Answer

: A sharp pain in a hand is not characteristic of an allergic reaction. Rash,itching,hives,tongue or throat swelling,wheezing are typical allergic responses. Life threatening reaction would be  cardiovascular collapse (anaphylaxis). Perhaps your antihistamines are preventing true allergic symptoms.

Dishwashing: Standard dishwashing should be fine for just about everyone, as long as the dishes are "clean like your mom told you" (no residual food stuck on them). The problem tends to be more when a utensil is used in one dish and then another in the same meal or during food preparation, without washing in between.

How severe?: Serious peanut allergies can be fatal if not treated promptly with an epipen (epinephrine).  No one can answer this question for you without knowing how severe your boyfriend's reaction is.  For some people, the smallest contact with peanuts, peanut butter, or any other food containing peanuts can trigger immediate swelling and difficulty breathing.  If this is the case, don't eat peanuts around him!

my wife had similar sx's. Endoscopy showed a superficial tear in the distal esophagus. If severe or doesn't resolve you may also need an endoscopy. Also a retained peanut fragment could be involved.  Provider may suggest antacid or other med.

Oral allergy syndrom: Oral allergy syndrome (oas) is a type of allergy that occurs in response to contact with food allergens. Some times the allergy is caused by allergic antibody (ige) , some times it is not. Either way, if symptoms are reproducible with each repeated exposure, then you have a food allergy. There is a risk that oas could change or evolve into a more serious reaction such as anaphylaxis.

Peanut allergy: It is possible that you have a peanut allergy do not eat peanuts or eat peanutbutter until you check with an allergist.
