Hi cortisol: Yes.  Chronically high cortisol is very damaging by causing inflammation throughout the body.  It leads to higher incidence of heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, and many more.  This is why proper sleep, exercise, other forms of stress reduction such as yoga, tai chi, and meditation are so valuable.

Neurologist: This is a question for the neurologist.  Brain inflammation is not related to degenerative disk disease and steroid can benefit either transiently.

Serious stuff: You describe yourself as having both adrenal insufficiency and hashimoto's; this sounds like schmidt's. Your life is in danger hour-to-hour if you do not manage your cortisol replacement exactly as you should. Don't accept advice from anyone but your physician, & if you have unanswered questions / are unsatisfied, get a consultation from another endocrinologist. Do not discontinue your replacement.

my friend went for swimming and she had an inflammation in her ears, dr said she has to take cortisol medicine called decort, so? should she take it?

Cortisol for Earache: I think you mean cortisone ear drop. That is standard medication. Many doctors recommend antihistamine esp during sleep to prevent scratching or digging in the ear.
If swelling doesn't respond to decort drops, ask doctor about using Clear.ease - papain/ bromelain lozenges to reduce swelling.

prevent Swimmer's Ear, avoid getting shampoo into the ear. This dries the oil, get infected with water

is there a reason to avoid prednisone for chf patient with inflammation, myalgia and kidney/water retention concern? what medicine is good to reduce cortisol?

Complex: Prednisone causes fluid and water retention and so is not a good medicine for someone with CHF. If there is no alternative, the effects can be reversed with furosemide that is titrated to effect. Since predisone is a corisol like drug, giving it is the opposite of reducing cortisol. In other words, if you have too  much cortisol, you would't give prednisone. Capish?

- Apply cool compresses
- Try 1% hydrocortisone cream
- Seek medical attention if your symptoms persist or worsen.
