Kidney stones: You had surgery for stones in your kidney.  Sometimes the stone causes blockage of urine and this build up of waste products increases the pressure in kidney leading to scar and thining.  The surgery attempts to clear up the blockage.

I wouldn't say they: are common, but not especially unusual. You list three findings in the kidney...a bit unusual..and I would definitely pursue a kidney evaluation when your acute problem is resolved. But your current symptoms don't especially suggest a kidney cause. : Normally, when you have one kidney removed the other kidney will compensate and it should get bigger than the kidneys of the individual at the same age with 2 intact kidneys. However, your remained kidney show cortical thinning which means you definitely has significant chronic kidney disease. Serum creatinine level, urinalysis result and current weight are needed for an accurate assessment.

Dromedary hump?: A common cause of focal kidney thickening of the left kidney is a normal anatomic variant called a dromedary hump. However, suspicious areas that might represent tumor or areas of infection often need a ct scan with contrast or ultrasound with  intravenous contrast to make sure a more serious problem is not present.

Not necessarily any: Kidney cortex contain nephrons or tiny filters ; is outer part of kidney. Can be result of hydronephrosis ; is swelling of entire kidney due to obstruction, congenital or acquired form stone or tumor. Symptoms can be flank or upper abdominal pain, blood in urine, also nausea ;/or vomiting. Can be due to kidney damage from infection causing loss of tissue -&gt; flank pain, hematuria or hypertension.

Depends: Was this on ultrasound? Ct? Could be very non-specific especially if your labs (creatinine and gfr) are normal. I wouldn't worry unless your doctor mentions any abnormalities in your blood work (you should ask him/her about this).
