someone please tell me what this means. im desperate. two adjacent small, rounded hypoechoic foci in the interpolar region right kidney are strictly indeterminate. these likely represent mildly complex cysts given young age neoplasm felt unlikely.?

: It means: there are 2 small cysts in the right kidney but radiologist could not decide those are simple cysts (benign) or complex cysts (could be malignant) so cysts were read as intermediate. You did not state the reason for the kidney ultrasound and I wonder if you have family history of cystic kidney disease. You should not worry at this time, ultrasound should be repeated in 3-6 months.

: Cysts very rarely go away on their own. From this description it does not seem serious but needs follow up

May not be needed: Treatment of renal cysts often depends upon appearance on imaging studies, in particular CT scans.  With a CT scan without and with contrast, one can tell if there are any parts of renal cystic lesions that enhance, or pick up dye and "light up".  Other characteristics, such as calcium associated with cyst walls or septations can be suspicious.  Round cysts are likely benign.  Talk to a urologist.

Nephrologist: Small sized kidneys  means kidneys appear smaller on ultrasound images. This must be evaluated in relation to the body size, age and renal function. On kidney ultrasound, kidney appearance is usually compared to liver , if kidneys appears more enhanced , it usually represents parenchymal disease which may be due to many causes like diabetes, hypertension etc. You must discuss with nephrologist.

Cystic Disease: Typically small sized kidneys can be congenital(born like that), or in many instances as your kidney function gets worse the kidney scars and get smaller- there are exceptions to this as diabetes kidney disease, HIV related kidney disease, infiltrative diseases(lymphoma) etc can be large. if you have small kidneys as well as cysts- this could be related to underlying disease- complicated answer.

Monitor: Needs monitoring by imaging and may need intervention rarely if it gets infected or bleeds into it.

It is a round fluid: Filled ball like mass that has divisions in it and looks like it is filled with blood. A simple cyst has no internal divisions. Like a grapefruit would be complex but a blown up balloon simple!!

Do not worry.: This is mostly due to aging of kidney. Infection and other diseases......Pkd can cause this kind of changes. Should be watched.

Likely no problem: 30% of population have at least 1 kidney cyst. 2nd cyst might have been missed on a first ultrsound or ct scan and found on a second study. Thus can be considered within normal limits as r 3 cysts. Concern would only come if both your kidneys developed very many cysts, so called polycystic kidney disease. This would b more than obvious if u had PKD at your age. U don't have pkd..
