Cord problems: The umbilical cord is long enough to occasionally encircle the fetus' neck , but this depends on the fetal movement, and not any motions by the mother.  The cord floats in the amniotic fluid, and even if it does twist around the fetus' neck, this can be determined in labor by a monitor, and the fetus delivered quickly if necessary during labor.

4-6 months: They usually have pretty good control by 4 months of age.  They have really good control by 6 months of age.

Neck Floats: Neck floats do not replace parent or caregiver being in the water with the infant.   Not safe if using without close supervision.

Need more info: Babies with Down syndrome typically have short necks with extra tissue. Having this noted on ultrasound does not necessarily mean the baby has down syndrome, but other tests will be necessary to know this.

Over time: Most women would agree that adding the length of a neck to a newborn would be a bit too much to fit. Infants do grow about an inch in their neck in the first 9 months which reduces the chin fold and allows them more room to mouth breathe when they get stuffy.

Not true: There are no contortions you can do with your body that would affect positioning of baby in uterus enough to cause problems. Go ahead and stretch and keep your mobility up!

No known association: Over three decades I have never seen any association between the two. I have had an infant with 5 wraps around the neck & no hiccups & hundreds with no wrap & hiccups. Just because the two may appear together on occasion does not mean the one issue was a signal of the other.

4 month old infant with eczema on back of neck and bleeding due to scratching. how would you treat this?

Beginning eczema: Eczema on any part of the body at a young age puts the infant at risk for local skin problems, eye problems and systemic immune problems.  You need to see a pediatrician for this who can prescribe the proper medications.  A four month infant scratching to the bleeding point should not be neglected long for this problem, .

i believe my 4 week old infant has a yeast infection in his little neck rolls.  do we need to make an appointment to come in for some medication?

Probably: The key to a good treatment is proper diagnosis. The redness in the neck folds could very well be yeast, but it could just be skin irritation too, or a rash relating to something else. Before bringing your little one in, do what you can to keep the area dry, and if it doesn't get better in a day or two, make an appointment to see your doctor.

she has dyhoria, coughs a lot and has blocked passages
what could be wrong?

Hard to say : The vague symptoms listed are not specific to one condition. If it persists long enough to interfere with her daily activities an exam &amp; review of her history may provide the answer &amp; treatment.
