Accepted Answer

Unlikely: Majority of ethanol is metabolized by the liver and kidneys remove only about 5 % alcohol in urine.

can migraines be a side effect of ct iv contrast dye?  had contrast before w/o issue.  today got migraine 15-20 min post-contrast injection.

Possible: Depending on the dye used sometimes it's cumulatively in the system for a while, even though it depots into tissue. So do make sure you're hydrating well enough that it would dilute the effects of the contrast dye. Make sure you didn't possibly eat or do any of the triggers that are known to cause  migraines too. You had a big procedure done, that can add stress and anxiety to it as well.

No: There are many illnesses and problems for which ct is helpful.  Ultimately, it is most important for the information obtained from the ct to be combined with the information the doctor obtains from examining you.

Define safe, painles: The MRI is generally safe and does not cause problems unless you have claustrophobia. The problems is the contrast (dye) which requires an IV site - &amp; hence a needle venipuncture. The dyes used varies at different places, but (high-osmolar) contrast dyes with Gadolinium have been known to cause nephrogenic systemic fibrosis. Ask the doctor ordering the MRI if dye HAS to be used, &amp; for alternatives

MR Arthrography: MR Arthrography is performed to determine whether you have a tear in the labrum (the cartilage that covers the shoulder "socket"), sometimes called a SLAP lesion. After numbing the skin, the radiologist will place a needle into the shoulder under X-ray guidance and inject contrast under X-ray to confirm the medication is flowing into the shoulder capsule. This procedure is not usually very painful

Yes: Esi involve the insertion of steroid into the space outside of the dural covering through either the translaminar or transforaminal approach. Although "dye" is use for location, it is not essential to safely perform an esi.

Injected contrast: Is very safe when used for guidance of epidural injections. The contrast is absorbed into the vascular system and excreted by the kidneys.

Accepted Answer

should not: The radioactive dye should be sterile and not cause infection. However, if the site of injection is not cleaned properly or the IV used for the injection becomes infected, there can be a risk of blood infection.
