my 3year old kid has constipation. medicines don't work. how can i help him? he doesn't want to eat, has fever and has no power.

Doctor Time: More information is needed here. For example, how high is the fever? What medicines has he had? It is questionable whether constipation really is the cause of the fever.He sounds like he may be dehydrated. And may have an infection. See your pediatrician.

No: No.  Constipation will not cause these symptoms.  You may have a bowel obstruction causing the fever and vomiting.  You need to be evaluated asap.

Not from my experia: I think most of my patients go thru a constipation phaze at one time or another, or it just seems so, but they don't generally run temp with it. The exception are some chronic retainers who in mid to late childhood skip the function for a week or so and end up so full & stressed that serial enemas are needed to clear them. I did have a 14 yo with 103 that resolved with enemas.

Fiber and water: You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods. Consult this site for fiber foods.

fever, chills, head ache and constipation, what to do?

Sounds like a cold: A cold or maybe the flu ...
Tylenol for fever and headache, a laxative for the constipation ... If your fever is over 101, do see a doctor tomorrow.
Don't go to work ... Stay warm .., lots of fluids ... If you have shaking chills, that is a serious symptom of a viral (or bacterial) infection ... Your doctor can take cultures and make a diagnosis.

Gastrointestinal: Gastrointestinal disturbances can cause vomiting and diarrhea. If you are initially constipated, eventually the bulk of the loose stool may push out the hard stool or go around it. Drink lots of fluids, especially electrolytes (gatorade). Rest, and eat light bland food (toast, tea, bananas, apples)

Infectious: It is hard to know the exact cause but with these symptoms an infectious cause should be considered and ruled out as you may need treatment. Please seek evaluation by your primary care physician.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Give him tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin for the fever, and some milk-of-magnesia to help with the constipation.  If that is not working he needs to be seen urgently, preferably in an emergency room.

See doc: Best to see a doc and get a good physical exam and see if you need any imaging of your abdomen to evaluate this. It may be an umbilical hernia or lipoma or something else.
