Yes: No mistaking it. The usual cause of a floating stool -- by far -- is gas bubbles. Stool fat: There are many malabsorption tests.
One is a stool 72 hour collection of fat- you collect all the stool and the lab determines how much fat is in the entire collection.
Other tests include stool enzymes such as chymotrypsin. A fecal calprotectin may be elevated in patients with crohn's. See your doctor for an evaluation.

: If the abnormal stool has not resolved, get seen in person for stool testing to rule out infectious organisms.

No fat in stool: If a qualitative test was negative then that meant there was no fat present in the stool at a detectable level. A quantitative test for the same thing would therefore be useless because there is nothing to measure.

Floaters: 99% of floating stools are caused by trapped gas . This is the truth in spite of what you might pick up from 'pop' accounts. It happens to me if i chew gum. Congratulations on not using tobacco. Keep an eye on the stomach issues -- and if the pain changes, consider a check once again. And if you have malabsorption or maldigestion, it's much less subtle than just a floating stool.

May be normal: If your baby is breastfeeding, four stools daily is entirely normal.  If on formula, this may still be normal. If the stools are odorous and loose, it may suggest a lactose intolerance if he/she is on a dairy-based formula, however.   In any case it does not sound like malabsorption as his growth is entirely appropriate at this time.  Do talk to your doctor about your concerns.
