Dialysis time: Your kidneys work 24/7/365 to remove toxins and maintain fluid and mineral balance for your body.  We do dialysis over the shortest time possible to get the job done to replace those functions without putting an intolerable strain on the heart, the dialsysis access, or other body systems.  If we go too quickly you could have severe low blood pressure or severe symptomatic metabolic disturbances.

Possible: Rarely some patients are allergic to hemodialysis filers which is a vague rare phenomenon characterized by shortness of breath and hyptension while connected to the dialysis machine, which is treated by changing to peritoneal dialysis.

Variable: There are 2 main ways to do dialysis.The hemodialysis treatment is for 3-4 hours a day, 3 times  a week.If done at night it can be done over 6-8 hours.If done at home it needs to be done for 5-6 days a week 2-2.5 hours daily, this is the best.

So many factors!: This is a complicated question, with many answers. Much depends on how you are feeling now. My guess is that you will feel better, but gradually. On the other hand, if you have become ill very abruptly with acute-on-chronic renal failure, the improvement may be dramatic. I think it is likely that you will have good days and less good days. Dialysis is a mixed bag, but better than the alternative.

Dialysis: Usually not very long.  Water accumulates and that makes breathing more difficult.  Urea accumulates and that makes the person sleepy and eventually unarousable.  Blood salts get all messed up and that can cause the heart to stop suddenly.  This is just for starters.  The longest I have seen a patient live after stopping dialysis is 1 week, but I am sure there are reports of people going longer.

Most likely do to inadequate dialysis and is really uremic neuropathy. If none of the above the a trial of more frequent and/or longer dialysis may be in order.

Not a good idea !: The normal kidney works 24 hours a day.Think about it , skipping dialysis is like 'cleaning" the blood intermittantly, which can lead to ill effects.

Bad Things: Water and waste products accumulate when you skip or miss a dialysis treatment.  Neither of these are good for you.  Best have a long talk with your doctor about the details.
