Important question : Always ask your doctor or pharmacist questions  about drug interaction and inform your prescriber of all your medicines you already take!  It is so important.  Reviewing contraindications for these meds I don’t think they are cause for concern.

Probably ok: Sometimes there is an interaction, but generally, these can be safely used together.

Zofran can cause sleepiness, this is the primary side effect to be aware of.

is zofran (ondansetron) ok to take occasionally with prozac? i know zofran (ondansetron) works via seratonin so wondering if it would mess with action of ssri

Accepted Answer

Usually OK: The medications won't lose their effect, but there is a risk of serotonin syndrome when you combine serotonin agents.  Discontinue both medications and see your doctor, if you develop tremor, agitation, diarrhea, or seizures.  You are not LIKELY to get those effects, but there is some small risk.  Avoid tramadol (which is another serotonin drug) while on the combination.

can i take prozac (liquid) and zofran (ondansetron) (pill) in the same day but at different times? how many hours apart should i take them?

Ok together: Prozac and zofran (ondansetron) are okay to be taken together, as there are no significant drug interactions, and could be taken at the same time.

can i take 4mg of zofran 12 hrs after taking 10 mg of prozac (fluoxetine) for the first time? feeling nauseous but i have to go to work tonight?

: There is a warning about taking those 2 meds together because of potential of the rare, but very serious,serotonin syndrome. In addition a study showed that prozac may interfere with the effectiveness of zofran. Try drinking flat ginger ale or flat coca cola to relieve nausea.

how many hrs should i wait btwn taking 40mg prozac (panic disorder/gad) & taking zofran 8mg pill? also will prozac reduce the effectiveness of zofran?

Accepted Answer

A simple regimen: take Prozac at bedtime and Zofran during the day or allow 6-8 hrs between doses. Prozac will not reduce the effectiveness of Zofran.

YES: YES- there should not be any interaction as long as there is a 4-6 hour wait time between doses.

Gastroparesis: Hi, there is very scant evidence to suggest that SSRI medications (Prozac) are helpful in treatment of Gastroparesis and also because they can increase nausea they are not well tolerated, the other 2 med are used to treat nausea and they have been used to treat nausea in patients with gastroparesis. 
although SNRI and TCA could be more effective.

im having a gerd flare up. so nauseous from it that not even zofran works. already on omeprazole. prescribed prozac today to help, but that will take 2+ weeks to take effect. how do i combat nausea in the meantime? ive lost 5lb this week already?

: Ideally you should see an urgent care doctor for further management. This may be more to your symptoms than just GERD.

hi is it ok to take prozac 20mg and prochlorperazine (for vertigo) 5mg together. my doctor said it was fine.  i'm also 26 weeks pregnant. my doctor still said it was fine to take them together.  it's this ok. i'm just looking for reassurance. thanks?

: I'm concerned about your taking prochlorperazine while pregnant especially in the absence of severe nausea or vomiting. Meclizine which is more commonly used to treat vertigo,,on the other hand, has been well studied in pregnancy and is considered safe for the baby. Prozac is considered a safe SSRI antidepressant during pregnancyI would validate this advice with your obstetrician&amp; your pharmacist
