since november 2019,i have had third colposcopy shows glsil. i'm 27 years old, havent had pregnancy,for this reason doctor said removing abnormal cell isnt recommended.i have heard it resolves on its own within 1 year but result stays same in my case?

: Only 50% of LSIL cases will regress so you need to be monitored. It is good that it has not progressed further so you do not need treatment yet. Good luck.

what all can a colposcopy show?

Precancerous changes: A pap smear is used to detect precancerous cells on the cervix but it does not tell you where the cells came from or how deep they go. A colposcopy is used to locate exactly where the problem is on the cervix and to find out how extensive or deep the abnormal cells go. Then a treatment plan can be determined.

i got my colposcopy results back and it says scant fragments of histologically unremarkable endocerix rare atypical squamous, favor reactive changes. what does this mean?

: "unremarkable endocervical cells" and rare "squamous reactive atypia"  essentially is a normal colposcopic finding.  A repeat pap smear in a year or so will provide reassurance .

are abnormal cells removed with a colposcopy biopsy?

Accepted Answer

After colposcopy..: This is done after Acetic Acid is put on the cervix to show the affected area(s).  It/they show up as white patch/patches which are then all removed with a biopsy, like a cone biopsy.  This is then examined under a microscope to determine if it is malignant.

Most likely: A pap smear is not good for diagnosing specific problems. It is only good for picking up general abnormalities. So if your pap smear shows abnormal cells, you need a colposcopy to actually give you a diagnosis as to what that abnormality represents. Very important!

how common is it to have an abnormal pap 6 months following a colposcopy freezing?

Accepted Answer

Quite common: The freezing or cryotherapy does not get rid of the virus which caused the abnormal cells.  It only gets rid of the abnormal cells.  If the virus that caused the cellular abnormalties (hpv) persists in your system, it can cause cellular irregularity (dysplasia) at any time.  Just make sure you keep up with the pap smear schedule recommended by your gyn.

ABNORMAL PAP R/O HPV: R/O HPV Given your past history you may WANT TO GET A SECOND OPINION for treatment options . I would request recheck copies of reports and get the recommendations of your current gyn for treatment options

Pap with pinching: It is a similar examination as a pap smear but the biopsies of the cervix might produce some "pinching".

Very common: It is not unusual for a pap smear to return as abnormal on a follow up pap. It does not mean that you have cancer. Your doctor may repeat the pap in 6 months because it is not unusual for the dysplasia to resolve or your doctor may want to do another colposcopy. You and your doctor will decide the treatment that best fits you. The important thing is that you do not skip your pap smears

Possible: There is a wide spectrum of what is abnormal on a pap smear. Sometimes the abnormality is such that you see it at colposcopy, many times the colposcopy is negative. It is best to have the health care provider explain to you the specific nature of your abnormal pap smear.
