Possible Ca: Most polyps of the colon are pedunculated and if there are changes, they are in the apex of the polyp and rarely reach the stalk early on.  The sessile or flat polyp is difficult to remove since there is no defined base and the lesion may have invaded mucosa requiring local resection after marking the polyp with dye.  The surgeon may want to surgically remove the polyp at that time.

46,healthy male,5 ft 8,136 lbs, healthy diet and exercise.colonoscopy was done as i am older than 45. results: a single 4 mm,sessile polyp in proximal descending colon. resection and removal were complete.worried that polyp could be cancer. comments?

Coordinate: With your surgeon & your gastroenterologist. Maybe wait 4-6 weeks after surgery, but would be best to get the approval from your surgeon who knows your condition in detail, before having colonoscopy.

if it were your own choice, would you decide on a sessile colon polyp (maybe precancerous) be removed by an oncology surgeon or by another that is experienced in endoscopy mucosal resection? (gastro md did colonoscopy but decided not to remove)?

: Individual providers in both specialties may have more or less skill for such procedures. Follow your gastroenterologist's advice as to her preferred provider(s) in your medical community.

i have recently had a colonoscopy and there weren't any biopsies or polyps taken. i haven't received any info yet.  what could this mean?

No news...: ...Is usually good news, but i would call the doctors office to verify there wasn't a miscommunication problem and request a copy of the report or a follow-up appointment with your md to review the results and plans for follow-up.

i had a colonoscopy and a polyp was removed friday morning.  i had my first bm this morning and it was very dark. do i need to contact my gi?

Accepted Answer

No: Totally normal.  Could be dark from a little bleeding from the polyp removal site, or from the colonoscopy preparation.  If it persists for a week, give your GI a call.

i am 31 i had my first colonoscopy in february of this year, is there any chance that tumors or polyps can appear soon after? it was negative!

Probably NoYou: They grow very slowly. That is why colonoscopy i've valuable.

i was told to not fly for two weeks after removing a polyp during a colonoscopy. is this really necessary?  i have a business trip planned in 4 days.

Probably not: If your colonoscopy was without incident, uneventful, and if your recovery has been that way also, I believe you should be able to go to your business trip. However, please let your doctor know about this and take his advice also.

Probably a slice or: ...two shouldn't be a problem. Would avoid an accompanying soda however to minimize additional bloat.
