can a colonoscopy help detect prostate cancer like from bulging?

Not Common Technique: The colonoscopy in itself may not visualize an enlarged prostate, in more advanced cases the prostate cancer can erode through the rectal wall and appear like a rectal cancer.  Prior to inserting the colonoscope the gastroenterologist performs a digital rectal exam in which he might feel  abnormalities of the prostate. A prostate abnormality does not necessarily mean cancer but should require eval.

as a 54 year old male i've never had a prostate exam, is it sufficient to just have a psa test, or is it advisable to have a physical exam? (my father had prostate cancer.) also, is it advisable to have a colonoscopy? what are my next steps? thanks?

Both: You should see a doctor for an evaluation, including a prostate examination and a discussion about getting PSA. A screening colonoscopy is advisable. At a minimum you should have your stool tested for occult blood.

57 yr old male, prostate cancer (g3+4), poor prep colonoscopy and path result of colonic mucosa showing prominent lymphoid aggregates in transverse colon. iis there anything further that should be tested/done for this finding?

: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, what you described could be applicable to a normal colon.    Wish you good health!

10 years earlier: In general, screening colonoscopies should start at age 50years, or 10 years earlier from the time detected by a family member.  The role of detection of prostate cancer is a bit more controversial, but start with regular physical exams and discussion with his primary care physician.

i've had a negative colonoscopy and prostate/rectal sonogram, do they both detect anal cancer? is anal cancer common?

Anal cancer: can be detected by direct rectal exam or anoscopy, without colonoscopy.  Trananal prostate ultrasound does not detect  anal cancer.  Anal cancer is less common than colorectal cancer.  If digital exam and colonoscopy are both negative, it is unlikely that you have anal cancer.

i have rectal bleeding from radiation proctitis. colonoscopy scheduled in january. should i stop taking daily baby aspirin? prostate cancer radiation ended in march. stent placed in 99% blocked lad in 2017. taking hydrocortisone suppositories. i'm 71?

: Since you have a stent in a coronary artery,it's important to take low dose aspirin indefinitely. If you're only experiencing trace amounts of bright red blood on the paper, I'm sure your cardiologist would want you to continue aspirin. However with substantial rectal bleeding &amp; chronic anemia, this would have to be a collaborative decision between your cardiologist and the gastroenterologist.

Varies.: Some people with prostate cancer may not have any symptoms and are found with a prostate nodule on routine examination or have blood work that shows a high psa level.  The screening recommendations for prostate cancer are debated/controversial, so have a discussion with your doctor.  Your doctor can discuss the risks and benefits of screening.
