39y/o, had 2 polpys removed (sigmond & descending, villous adenoma w/high grade dysplasia). will i get colon cancer even though 2 polyps were removed?

Accepted Answer

Not sure if: Family history or leeding led to your colonoscopy, but it showed its value.  You are not predestined to get invasive cancer, but the findings warrant follow up to snip dangerous polyps before they invade, and gain access to nodes and blood steam. Your colonoscopist can tell you schedule for surveillance.

i got a colonoscopy done and the report says "adenomatous polyp, polyp removed, with high grade dysplasia". polyp was 26mm. no history of colon cancer. what does this mean? what kind of questions/tests should i ask when i meet my gastroenterologist?

Polyp: Most importantly ask when the next screening colonoscopy should be done as your colon polyp, size and microscopically,  indicates that this was a great pickup. Also there is risk for more polyp formation in the future. Ask your gastroenterologist if there's any dietary advice or advisability of taking low dose aspirin as preventative measures for polyp formation or development of colon cancer

65 female stage2b colon cancer dx 2017underwent hemicolectomy and adjvunt chemo 12sessions.have been on surveillance.last year colonoscopy revealed adenomatous polyp low grade dysplasia doc said f/u should be 2y later.time frame ok or annually?

: You need to separate the follow up for Colon Cancer(for this you need to see your doctor every 6 months to 12 month intervals) and for the colon Polyps. The advice for 2 yearly rechecks is strictly for the Colon polyps  which can reappear and require recheck at 2-3 year intervals. Good luck.

i had two tubular adnomas removed in '09 at 33, one hyperplastic and one tubular adenoma removed in '12. am i likely to get colon cancer. no fam hstry?

tubular adenomas: The fact that you have tubular adenomas at such an early age probably does slightly raise your lifetime risk of colon carcinoma.  However, now that you know you can have careful followup and screening to make sure all adenomas are removed before they can develop into colon cancer.

can a person develope obstructive colon cancer two years after scope that showed 1 hyper and 1 adenoma polyp and diverticulosis?

Yes: It is possible, although rare.
The most common explanation would have been a missed colon polyp during the past procedure, due to either poor colon prep (stool in colon) or incomplete procedure due to technical reasons. 
Aggressive cancers (with genetic mutations - usually hereditary) can lead to obstructive cancer in a year.

Reccomended time: I know it feels uncomfortable to wait so long, but these time frames are based on multiple large studies with risk and time calculated closely to see when the safe time frame to go without a colonoscopy is. This falls in that time frame, especially with no fam history. Any symptoms though, contact the GI doc as soon as you see any. Hope that helps!

How many and family: History.  Age 26 is early to have colonic polyps.  If you have multiple polyps you are at high risk for colon cancer.  What is your family history regarding colon cancer?  Please consult your doctor at your earliest to be investigated for apc gene.

Partially yes: The staging information is generally favorable. The T3 (liothyronine) means that this tumor was involving the bowel wall but not the surrounding organs and this may have contributed to the perforation during the dissection. My advise is when you see an oncologist, make sure to point out this information. Even though you are node negative, the oncologist may be more willing to recommend chemotherapy to be safer.
